Dr. Josephine H. Pete  –  Community Service Award

Join us on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Senior Awards Luncheon and meet a true trailblazer, Dr. Josephine H. Pete. Dr. Pete, a lifelong member of the South Phoenix community, retired as Deputy Superintendent of the Phoenix Union High School District.

Dr. Pete has demonstrated her care and concern for the community by devoting her skills and finances to motivating and encouraging students to stay in school and succeed academically. She spent countless hours securing resources and establishing partnerships with community businesses and agencies. Being a mother of two daughters reinforced her strong commitment to including, empowering, and providing equal educational opportunities for females and other underrepresented minorities.

She states her philosophy clearly: “The cost of educating is great; the cost of not educating is greater.” And she states her guiding principle clearly as well: “Our legacy is determined by what we do for others.” She has certainly lived those words.
