Ron was born September 6, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from High School in Belton, Missouri in 1966 and afterward went to the University of Kansas (KU). He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1971. He participated in the ROTC program while at KU and entered the Air Force after graduation, continuing the legacy of his father, Brig. Gen. (Ret) Charles McGee, an original Tuskegee Airman.

Ron went to Laredo AFB, Texas for military pilot training and graduated 5th out of 63 in his class. He went to George AFB, CA for F-4 phantom training with the 21st Fighter Squadron. Afterwards, he was assigned to Ubon, Thailand and flew with the 497th Night Owl squadron from August 1973 until his return after the Viet Nam war. He was stationed at Bergstrom AFB, TX until he separated from the Air Force in 1978.

After his service in the military, Ron joined the commercial side of aviation, initially flying for Braniff Airlines. Missing the military fighter flying, he joined the Air Force Reserves flying the A-10 Thunderbolts at Richards Gebaur AFB, MO. He continued his civilian career with Continental and United Airlines. He flew as Captain on the B-727, DC-10, B-777 and B-787 Dreamliner. He was an instructor pilot and Check Airman for seventeen years on the DC-10, B-777 and B-787. Ron retired from United with over 31,100 total flight hours. He now works for Boeing Aircraft Company, training pilots in the Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliner simulators, worldwide.

Ron currently resides in Las Vegas. He has six children and two grandchildren. One daughter served in the Navy, and two others have interest in aviation. His grandson is interested in flying and the Space Force, continuing the legacy. Combining his love of flying and photography, Ron started his own photographic business, using professional drones. He is always looking forward to the next “adventure” in life!
